Submagic, if

  • Your videos are already short and you want captions, effects and B-roll on them: that's what its Starter, Pro and Business plans do.
  • You want stock B-roll: Storyblocks on Pro, premium and movie clips on Business.
  • You want silences, bad takes and filler words removed for you.
  • You need captions in many languages: Submagic lists 123.

iaclips, if

  • You start from long episodes, interviews or talks.
  • You want to clip long videos on a free plan: 30 minutes every 30 days, no watermark.
  • You'd rather pay for hours of video than per upload.

Questions

Can Submagic turn a long video into clips?

Yes, with Magic Clips, an add-on subscription: $19 a month for 10 video uploads, on top of a Submagic plan (Starter is $19 a month, or $12 paying yearly). Its pages don't say how long those videos can be.

Does Submagic have a free plan?

Its pricing page lists no free plan, only Starter, Pro, Business and Custom. It offers a free try with no credit card but doesn't publish the trial's limits. iaclips' free plan is 30 minutes of video every 30 days, with no watermark.

How long can my video be?

Submagic's plans take videos of up to 2 minutes (Starter), 5 (Pro) or 30 (Business); for Magic Clips no limit is published. On iaclips, up to 30 minutes per video on the free plan, as long as your hours left on Creator and Pro, and up to 4 hours from a YouTube link.

Which languages does each one work with?

Submagic says it captions 123 languages. iaclips detects the language automatically, or you pick one of 9: Spanish, English, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese or Korean.

Which one makes better clips?

We haven't published a blind comparison, so we don't claim either way. The fairest test is yours: run the same long video through both.
